John Allen in studio

"one of the most versatile and expressive violinists in North America"

Toronto Star April, 2005

Nella Music is pleased to present a new solo recording by the long time member of country group Prairie Oyster, John P Allen.

The disc features John P. and some of his favourite musicians and singers, serving up a smorgasboard of classic Canadian country and folk music, much of it in the bluegrass style, for which he is known around the world.

David Talbot is an old friend of John's from their days in the Dixie Flyers in the 1980s. Dave has firmly established himself in the Nashville scene over the past ten years, and now tours with Dolly Parton.

Mike Stevens is recognized as one of North America's finest harmonica players, and commutes regularily from his home in Sarnia to perform on the Grand Ole Opry.

The CD was recorded at the legendary Grant Avenue Studio in Hamilton, Ontario by Bob Doidge, who is well known for his work with Gordon Lightfoot.

John is also thrilled with the beautiful maple leaves contributed by acclaimed watercolour artist, Laura Urquhart, of Kitchener.

We hope you will enjoy "A Canadian Portrait"!
